Promo Video

Click here Take a look at our promo video for our church! Nick Khoo from Hillsong created a video and I think it’s world class. He used Sony Vegas and Photoshop to create the video. I’ve made the video page as easy to use as possible with as many possible video quality and sizes as I could allow without confusing visitors to the site too much. Both Windows and Mac users are catered for so that no-one is left out. There is also a DivX version as well for anyone who wants to see it in DVD quality.

Rebellious youth!

I was just reading about Anthony LaVey’s son Jess, who rebelled against his father and the “Church of Satan” to become a Christian as a teeneager.

I can just picture him now in the school yard, down behind the toilet block….
“hey Jess, you got some of the good stuff?”
“Yeah Johnny, I got something here you need real bad”
“Really, what have you got for me?”
“A tract bro, on holiness, just for you…”

Or how about his mother searching his room…
“Anthony, I’m worried about Jess, I think he’s up to something really bad and mixing with the wrong crowd, I just found a bible in his room.”

Anyway, I just thought how funny the tables can turn in any situation, for some reason, he was running from his parents into the right direction, rather than the wrong one!

Live recording direct to PC

I’m looking at recording church services direct to PC soon. I’ve decided dubbing tape to CD is dubious at best from a quality perspective and actually having the audio on a PC in the first place is a much more productive way of making copies of messages (sermons). At some point in the future I’m sure we will get live CD burners and duplicators, but for now I think that this will work really well. In fact, if dubbing direct to PC works well, then why not do that? Why have a Live CD burner if the PC does it just as well. another advantage is having all the audio archived to PC so that fullfilling orders happens alot more quickly. All we need to do is create seperate CD (ISO) files for each message and then anyone on my team can make copies of messages ready for pickup on the weekend.

Back to blogging

Hiyas, I thought I’d post my first blog in quite a while! I know I’m been gone for too long, but I promise to keep posting as regularly as possible.

The last few months have been full-on fun and hard work helping Andrew and Vanessa and the whole team get Generation Church off the ground on the Gold coast. I have been involved in production and I’ve loved the challenge of learning about production challenges that face every sound guy in a church.

I’ve also been working with a small team on church news each week, which has been alot of fun and provides a regular creative outlet. Check out the church news video page. This page is being updated every week with fresh weekend news for our congregation at Reidy Creek. I have encoded the video in a number of different video formats including WMV, MOV and DivX. So I think that all the bases are covered, including a very high quality DivX option that allows people with a faster broadband connection to download the video and watch it on their computers. You may be interested to know that the DivX version is what we actually use for playback of church news for the weekend services! It’s quality is outstanding and file size is small compared to Mpeg-2 used to compress DVD video.
