Beware of brokers baring gifts

I was just talking to a friend the other day who promptly told me that now is not the time to buy property. I was somewhat perplexed by this because when the market is depressed it’s the time to invest. I thought to myself that this was something a stock broker would say about property. Well blow me down my friend confirmed it; his friend was a broker.

So the question begs asking… why ask for investment advice from a stock broker about investing in property? To me it’s like asking a Mac user what video editing software they should buy for their PC, the Mac user would say “Get A Mac!”.

Stock and property are like Apples and Oranges, you just can’t compare the two, they are both round and taste nice… and thats about it.

Getting property investment advice from a stock broker is like asking a mufti to suggest a church to get your kid christened…

iPhone for business? it won’t get the job done I’m sorry

I have been fretting for the last little while about whether to get the iPhone of not when it come out.

After having a play with my Mum’s iTouch… (iPhone minus the phone) I have come to the conclusion that, from a business perspective, the iPhone just won’t cut the mustard. The keyboard, no matter how much you look at it does not stand up to the blackberries for raw text input.

More importantly, even though I have ranted on this to my friends and colleagues in the past, Research in Motions BES platform, cumbersome and frustrating to implement as it is, is very secure and “Just Works” (Once it’s going of course).

Anyway, why would a company stuff itself by using Java to build one of the most important wireless platforms on the planet? I understand it makes cross platform implementation much easier, but in the end it’s the customer who has to foot the bill for all the extra server resources they have to add to keep executives happily tapping away on their Blackberries…

There I go again!! Another rant…

But seriously, BES is a resource HOG and RIM needs to seriously revisit their roadmap to stay relevant against the likes of Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 and exchange…

OK I better stop now, this is just going to get out of hand.

iPod Touch

I just bought my Mum an iPod Touch 8Gb for her birthday.

She loves it.

Mum’s a bit of a digicam geek so I uploaded all 8,500 photos to the touch for her to show off to her friends.

It only left 1Gb of space on the device for songs, but we will take a few of the albums off to free up some space. The optimisation of the images took 2.5 hours on her 1.6 Ghz dual core Toshiba laptop.

I also added Michael Bublé and “here I am” by Nataclie Goucci and she added Darlene Zchech’s latest album to her iPod on the device using wifi!!

Fun.

Now I *really* want one! Such a slick interface, Safari is awesome, I’ve never seen web pages look so good on the small screen, it just needs a mail application and she would be very happy.
