Its Easy To Be Cynical about Hillsong and MegaChurches
After reading Mega Church Watch I have come to the conclusion (or maybe I did years ago) that it’s alot easier to form cynical attitudes to things that grow than applaud someone or something thats doing better than you are.
I love the fact that things grow, I don’t sit around being resentful that the tree outside my window is growing do I?
I’m growing too, just differently to the tree. I don’t get hurt and resentful because I’m not growing as fast as the sapling outside – it just grows differently to me.
When something is growing and baring fruit in the form of local and international mission, fostering the growth of individuals in the workplace, then at best give it praise, at worst leave it alone.
The tall poppy syndrome is alive and well in Australia.
As Christians, shouldn’t we know better?
Or is the syncretistic appropriation of secular values ok?
Christmas 2006 – It’s a wrap!
Christmas was awesome this year.
I was feeling rather oblique by the end of it, my legs and arms and stomach jutting out in various contorted directions as I tried to get the uncomfortable mess occupying my insides into some sense of order.
In other words I stuffed myself stupid…
I felt a bit mentally challenged as I dragged my carcas off to bed last night. And even worse as I got up this morning, is there such a thing as Christmas hangover, even when you haven’t consumed any alcohol?
Wow, but it was awesome on many levels!
All the family together, and we went and hung out with the Sweet Grannies at the nursing home in the arvo. Funny thing is that my Grandad opened that same nursing home thirty five years ago!
They don’t really know who I am anymore, but we all had a lovely time chatting and bringing the grannies up to speed on how many grand and great grand children they now have, and also the fact that they also have children, and that they had them together… “yes grandma, thats your husband Jim…”
But it’s amazing how they can have moments of great clarity, the prayer that Grandad prayed as we linked hands at the end was amazing.
I havn’t posted in soooo long!
It’s been quite a while, but here is a recap:
* I have now relenquished sound and lighting to the awesome Brad Sage at Generation Church
* Brad is a gun sound engineer, so he will take it forward much better than I ever could
* I am up to my armpits in cool proposals that will lift the atmosphere on Sundays!
* I recently revieved a huge revelation from God about “hope” and how the “buzz factor” generates atmosphere on Sundays at Generation Church!
* So many amazing things happening at Generation Church. The Gold Coast will never be the same!
20′ laptops coming soon
Ready for a 20-inch laptop? | CNET News.com
I was thinking about this a few day’s ago. What would a 20′ laptop be like to lug around. I mean, if you have ever seen the 20′ iMac you would have an idea of the size of a thin profile computer with the 20′ display. Imagine that in a laptop form factor.
I think notebook manufacturers would start to look at weight saving materials more closely.

Live recording direct to PC
I’m looking at recording church services direct to PC soon. I’ve decided dubbing tape to CD is dubious at best from a quality perspective and actually having the audio on a PC in the first place is a much more productive way of making copies of messages (sermons). At some point in the future I’m sure we will get live CD burners and duplicators, but for now I think that this will work really well. In fact, if dubbing direct to PC works well, then why not do that? Why have a Live CD burner if the PC does it just as well. another advantage is having all the audio archived to PC so that fullfilling orders happens alot more quickly. All we need to do is create seperate CD (ISO) files for each message and then anyone on my team can make copies of messages ready for pickup on the weekend.
Just watched “The Lord Of
Just watched “The Lord Of The Rings”… WOW, let me spell that backwards… WOW! I am amazed at how Peter Jackson has (seemingly) so effortlessly created this cinematic masterpiece. The sets were brethtaking, the dialogue riveting and the battlescenes enthralling. I am amazed, and deffinatly this years standout movie for me. The parallels between the bible and Tolkiens masterpiece are many, subtly crafted into a storyline that has formed the basis of Fantasy and Science-fiction for half a century. The similarities between Star Wars and LOTR are many as well, no doubt Lucas was a fan. In fact I would even be so bold as to say that Star Wars is pure fantasy. My reasoning is that Star wars could have been set in a Medieval time but still contain precisly the same plot. The essence of Star Wars is not in “Scince” but actually in a fable. Thats why so many people like Star Wars and not Star Trek, whereas Trekers are drawn to science, while fans of Lucas’ epic are drawn to the fable, not the science. Trekkers are of course drawn the the fable of Star Wars like any other movie with a good plot, but are also drawn to the science as well (though there is little of it, when you think about it, space and starships and storm trooper armour are mearly props and not essential to the story).
Ha! Just some thoughts about a masterpiece that I hope will help people to re-evaluate their destiny or “higher purpose” and find Jesus. Can someone find Jesus in this movie? … I hope so ![]()
Had a crazy day today.
Had a crazy day today.
One of the guys at work accused me of taking the cred for his work. He was listening in a conversation I was having with another staff member and he thought I was talking about a project that he had designed, when in actual fact we were talking about a totally unrelated project that he had nothing to do with. Suffice it to say when he sent me a rather abusive email, it took me a little while to figure out what he was talking about… I didn’t have a clue. If this guy wants to evesdrop, then he should do it properly.
